Team Profiles

As an innovative team, the Practical High Temperature Superconducting Materials and Application Research Team focuses on the preparation process of new generation HTS tape and realizes the R&D of the full supply chain from superconducting tape, core equipment to magnet system.

The team and China Nonferrous Metal Mining(Group) Co., Ltd(CNMC) jointly established the China Nonferrous Metal Mining(Group) Co., Ltd Innovation Research Institute -Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory High Temperature Superconducting Joint Engineering Center in May 2024. The joint engineering center is mainly engaged in preparation of high-performance, low-cost HTS tape and magnet system to help realize the large-scale industrial application in high-current power transmission and high magnetic field.

R&D Achievements

  • Developed a double-sided chemical solution polishing technique that can reduce the surface roughness of rough metal base strips to below 2 nm.
  • Developed a double-sided Ion Beam Assisted Deposition (IBAD) technique to obtain double-sided IBAD-MgO textured layers, achieving good in-plane and out-of-plane uniformity on both sides, with out-of-plane FWHM around 3° and in-plane FWHM around 5°.
  • Developed a double-sided LaMnO3 buffer layer preparation technique using dual magnetron sputtering targets. The use of metal targets reduced the cost of ceramic targets and effectively suppressed arcing on the target surface. This also minimized target oxidation, ensuring high film quality.
  • A novel self-heating temperature control technology for the base strip was invented, which ensures stable and uniform heating with low energy consumption. Compared to traditional external heating methods, this technique reduces heating power consumption by 60%.
  • Developed a narrow-channel gas transport technique for MOCVD, increasing the utilization rate of organometallic sources from 10% to 31%.
  • Refrigerating machines directly cool superconducting magnets and HTS magnet.
